How to send a Quizbot quiz to Google Classroom, Kahoot or your LMS

Make a quiz once and use it everywhere: how Quizbot exports to Google Classroom, Kahoot, Canvas, Blackboard, Schoology, Brightspace and Moodle, step by step.

Writing a quiz is one job. Getting it into the platform your students actually use is another, and retyping questions into a new tool is nobody's idea of a good afternoon. Quizbot can export a quiz to the tools most schools already use. Here is how each one works.

Before you export

Make your quiz as usual: paste text, upload a PDF, Word file or slides, or enter a topic, and generate. Review the questions and the answer key, and edit anything you want to change. Everything you export comes from this version, so it is worth getting right first.

Then open the export menu on the quiz page. Word and PDF downloads and the Google Classroom export work on every plan; exports to Kahoot and learning platforms are part of Quizbot's paid plans.

Google Classroom

Choose Google Classroom and sign in with the Google account you teach with. Pick the class, and Quizbot creates a Google Forms quiz from your questions, with the correct answers and points already set so that Forms can grade them, and posts it to that class as an assignment.

Kahoot

Choose Kahoot to download a spreadsheet in Kahoot's own import template. In Kahoot's editor, use the option to import questions from a spreadsheet and upload the file. Two things to know:

  • Kahoot imports multiple-choice and true/false questions with two to four answers, so other question types are left out.
  • Kahoot limits questions to 120 characters and answers to 75. Quizbot shortens anything longer while keeping the meaning and the correct answer, but read through the result before you play.

Canvas, Blackboard, Schoology and Cypher Learning

These platforms import quizzes in QTI, a standard format for exchanging test questions. Choose your platform in the export menu to download a QTI file (.zip).

In Canvas, open your course's Settings, choose Import Course Content, select QTI .zip file and upload it. In the other platforms, use the import option in the question bank or test tools.

Brightspace (D2L)

Choose Brightspace to download a package for D2L. In your course, use Brightspace's import tools (Import/Export/Copy Components) to bring the questions in, then add them to a quiz.

Moodle

Choose Moodle XML. In Moodle, open your course's question bank, choose Import, select the Moodle XML format and upload the file. You can then add the questions to any quiz.

Word, PDF and print

For paper quizzes, download the quiz as a Word document if you want to adjust the layout, or as a PDF that is ready to print. Keep the answer key for yourself.

If an import does not work

  • Check the format matches the platform. Canvas, Blackboard, Schoology and Cypher Learning take the QTI file; Moodle needs Moodle XML; Brightspace needs its own package.
  • Upload the file exactly as downloaded. Opening a .zip or spreadsheet and saving it again in another program can change the format. For Kahoot, keep the spreadsheet as .xlsx.
  • Try a test course first. If you are importing into your school's LMS for the first time, use a sandbox or empty course to see where the questions land before adding them to a live class.
  • Check question types. Each platform supports a different set of question types. Multiple-choice and true/false questions import almost everywhere; other types may be skipped or converted.
  • Look at the questions after importing. Point values, time limits and shuffling are set by the platform, so review the quiz settings before you assign it.

Which should I choose?

One quiz can go to several places: a Kahoot game on Monday, then the same questions as Google Classroom homework on Wednesday. If you have not made one yet, start with the AI quiz generator.
